Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather skin in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming...Damn, what a ride!!. It’s the only thing that keeps me from becoming a huge computer nerd how he fuels his wild life: I rarely sit still, so anything that involves movement does the trick

7/8/07 – “Car camping site” to Lake after Carson Pass (21 miles)

Today was an exciting day, mainly because we were passing a mountain called “The Nipple.” Strangely enough, there were 2 mountains in the same vicinity that could definitely pass for The Nipple. The name was certainly appropriate. Well, maybe not appropriate, but accurate.

The walking was really gorgeous throughout the day. The wildflowers are finally blooming in fair amounts, making for very colorful surroundings. Indian paintbrush, lupine, yellow daisies, lavender-looking spritzes…all sorts of flowers (I am pretty much making up these names as I obviously have no idea what I’m talking about….).

We all took a lovely afternoon swim in Frog Lake before heading down to the Carson Pass Ranger Station, where we were greeted with a little trail magic from the Ranger himself. Oranges!

It was then on a few more miles to a sublime lake with perfect established campsites dotting the shore. Of course, the mosquitoes were horrendous, but I watched the sunset from the edge of the lake and felt extremely content.

*Quick note – I forgot to mention some of the best trail magic we have encountered so far! I can’t quite remember which day it was exactly, but as we were leaving camp one morning, Sage happened to state that she was predicting some trail magic that day. Well, sure enough, as we arrived at Ebbets Pass, a woman named Rachel was there with an arsenal of magic. She was cooking up massive kosher hot dogs, complete with every type of condiment imaginable. The very best part was the cooler filled with all kinds of drinks, including Hershey’s chocolate milk!! The two cartons that I consumed that morning were most likely the best choco milk I’ve had yet. I hate to announce, though, that this outstanding trail magic did not sit too well with me throughout the rest of the day. I suspect it had a lot to do with consuming 2 extra large hot dogs in the span of 30 minutes or so….But I regret nothing!
